Scott Gibbons

Scott Gibbons è un compositore americano, interprete di musica elettroacustica, figura seminale della dark ambient e micromusic. Attivo da oltre 30 anni nel campo della sperimentazione sonora, si muove su di un doppio binario tra fonti organiche e potenzialità tecniche. Partendo dallo studio delle frequenze, ricerca suoni estratti dalla profondità della materia, captandone l’emergenza dalle superfici delle cose, dai volumi e dai movimenti più nascosti (rocce, incendi, carta, aria). Ogni suono così ottenuto si mantiene aderente alla propria radice, caricandosi di energia latente e significato, tra piano molecolare e piano cosmico. Nel 1998 inizia a lavorare con il regista Romeo Castellucci e Societas per Genesi. From the museum of sleep, e i grandi cicli Tragedia Endogonidia e La Divina Commedia. Ha pubblicato più di 30 album in solo o in collaborazione, tra cui i lavori elettroacustici Stone e Redwing (Sub Rosa) pubblicati sotto lo pseudonimo Lilith; The Cryonic Chants (KML Recordings) suite composta con Chiara Guidi; Il Terzo Reich (Xing) mantra techno per Romeo Castellucci; My Computer My Stereo (Thousand) synthpop del duo Orbitronik; Dialtones. A Telesymphony (Staalplaat) performance sonora per più di 200 cellulari con Levin & Shakar. Gibbons ha anche creato le composizioni per spettacoli di fuochi d’artificio del Groupe F in occasione dell’inaugurazione del Louvre Abu Dhabi e per la celebrazione del 120° anniversario della Torre Eiffel utilizzando i suoni della torre come percussioni. Ha collaborato inoltre con artisti di ambiti diversi tra cui Hilliard Ensemble, Survival Research Labs, Dead Voices On Air, Not Breathing e The Flying Luttenbachers.

Scott Gibbons is an American-born composer and performer of electroacoustic music. Active for over 30 years in the field of sound experimentation, he is a seminal figure for dark ambient and micromusic, utilizing a two-fold exploration into the possibilities of natural acoustic phenomena on the one hand, and those of audio technology on the other. Focused on the study of perception, he extracts sounds from the depth of matter, capturing their emergence from the most hidden volumes and movements, between the molecular level and the cosmic plane. Each sound thus obtained retains a connection to its root but is charged with latent energies and significance. Since 1998 he has created music and sonic events for the award-winning theatre productions of Romeo Castellucci and Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio (Genesi. From the Museum of Sleep, the cycles of Tragedia Endogonidia and La Divina Commedia). He has released more than 30 albums with various groups and solo, including electroacoustic works Stone and Redwing (Sub Rosa) released under the pseudonym Lilith; The Cryonic Chants (KML Recordings) suite composed with Chiara Guidi; Il Terzo Reich/The Third Reich (Xing) techno mantra for Romeo Castellucci; My Computer My Stereo (Thousand) synthpop by Orbitronik; Dialtones. A Telesymphony (Staalplaat) sound performance for more than 200 mobile phones with Levin & Shakar. Gibbons also creates music for large-scale firework spectacles with Groupe F, for the inauguration of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and for the 120th anniversary celebration of the Eiffel Tower incorporating sounds of the tower itself. He has also collaborated with artists as diverse as the Hilliard Ensemble, Survival Research Labs, Dead Voices On Air, Not Breathing, and The Flying Luttenbachers.
