Marcelo Evelin
Marcelo Evelin, coreografo, ricercatore e performer nato a Piauí in Brasile, vive e lavora tra Amsterdam e Teresina. Trasferitosi nel 1986 in Europa, ha lavorato nell’ambito della danza, collaborando a progetti con artisti di diverse provenienze disciplinari, dal teatro fisico alla musica, dal video alle installazioni, all'occupazione di spazi specifici. È creatore indipendente e come tale ha fondato nel 1995 la piattaforma Demolition Incorporada, che tuttora dirige. Insegna alla Mime School di Amsterdam accompagnando gli studenti nei processi creativi. Conduce workshop e progetti collaborativi in diversi paesi in Europa, Africa, Giappone, Nord e Sud America. Dal 2006 torna ad operare nel suo paese d’origine, il Brasile, dove sino al 2013 ha ricoperto il ruolo di manager e curatore del Núcleo do Dirceu, piattaforma di ricerca e sviluppo per le Performing Arts Contemporanee, animato da un collettivo di artisti indipendenti di Teresina. Nel 2016 sempre a Teresina ha aperto, insieme a Regina Veloso, CAMPO, un nuovo spazio per pensare, praticare e diffondere l'arte ed altre discipline connesse, dove è insediato lo studio di Demolition Incorporada. Le performance e spettacoli Matadouro (2010), Suddenly everything is black with people (2012), Batucada (2014), e The Invention of Evilness (2019) sono stati presentati in diversi contesti e paesi. Ha creato The Who of Things per Carte Blanche, la compagnia di danza contemporanea norvegese, e All the Women in the World per Dancebox, a Kobe in Giappone, paese in cui ha anche prodotto Sick Dance (2018) ispirato all'universo del maestro di butoh Tatsumi Hijikata. Le ultime creazioni sono La nuit tombe quand elle veut (2021) in collaborazione con Latifa Laâbissi, e UIRAPURU (2022). Attualmente insegna al CND Centre National de la Dance di Parigi, al HAK ad Amsterdam, e EXERCE a Montpellier. Nel 2019 ha ricevuto il titolo di Dottore Honoris Causa dall'Università Federale di Piaui, Brasile.
Marcelo Evelin born in Piauí (Brazil), is choreographer, researcher and performer. He lives and works between Amsterdam and Teresina. Based in Europe since 1986, he works in the dance field and collaborated with artists on various project from physical theater to music, video, installation and occupation of specific spaces. He is an independent creator with his company Demolition Incorporada, established in 1995, and teaches at the Mime School of Amsterdam, where he also guides students in creative processes. He coordinates workshops and collaborative projects in several countries in Europe, America, Africa, Japan, South America and Brazil, where he returned in 2006, and since then has been working as manager and curator, having deployed in Teresina, the Núcleo do Dirceu, a collective of artists and a platform for independent research and development of the Contemporary Performing Arts, which he coordinated until 2013. In 2016 he opened in Teresina CAMPO, a new space for thinking, practicing and disseminating art and related disciplines, which is also the studio of Demolition Incorporada. His performances Matadouro (2010), Suddenly everything is black with people (2012), Batucada (2014) and The Invention of Evilness (2019) are being shown in theaters and festivals in Brazil and abroad. He created The Who of Things for Carte Blanche, the Contemporary Dance Company of Norway; and All the Women in the World for Dancebox, in Kobe, Japan, where he also produced the choreography Sick Dance (2018) inspired by the universe of butoh master Tatsumi Hijikata. His latest creations are La nuit tombe quand elle veut (2021) co-authored with Latifa Laâbissi, and UIRAPURU (2022). He currently teaches at CND Centre National de la Dance in Paris, HAK University of the Arts in Amsterdam and EXERCE in Montpellier. In 2019 received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Federal University of Piaui, Brazil.
