Valerio Maiolo, sound performer e music engineer basato a Bologna, lavora con la sintesi del suono discreto e con sistemi di controllo digitale di strumenti analogici per ambienti installativi e performativi. Il lavoro teorico è al centro della sua ricerca musicale e si colloca tra lo studio di insiemi parzialmente ordinati di altezze intonate naturalmente, la teoria dei numeri e la parametrizzazione di curve algebriche nello spazio. La sua voce, attraverso il corpus di tecniche vocali del canto armonico, si muove e vive in questo spazio, in una negoziazione continua tra astratto e mimetico. Il suo lavoro vive nella performance dal vivo. Ha studiato Musica Elettronica al Conservatorio G.B. Martini, Fisica all'Università di Bologna e Music and Acoustic Engineering al Politecnico di Milano. Ha pubblicato per le etichette Trovarobato, ArteTetra e Luminance Records. Le sue performance Entangled, Contemplation of Blue, Eternal Source of Light Voice Space, The neat sensation of our separation, Curve25519 e altre opere sono state presentate da realtà sperimentali di Bologna tra cui Xing/Raum, No Glucose, Gallleriapiù, Alchemilla, Centro di Ricerca Musicale Teatro San Leonardo, come anche Macao e  Standards per Artweek Milano 2019, e da istituzioni tra cui Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Cimitero Storico Monumentale della Certosa di Bologna, Museo Storico Archeologico di Santarcangelo, e reti e festival tra cui Umanesimo Artificiale, Bologna Elettrica, NESXT Torino. È stato direttore artistico dei cicli di eventi di musica elettronica NE555 e Spectrorama.

Valerio Maiolo, sound performer and music engineer based in Bologna, works with computer-based phase manipulation of digital harmonic signals to make sensorimotor experience of an abstract spectral space. He uses discrete sound synthesis and digital control systems for analog instruments in installations and performative environments. His work is focused on live performance events and harmonic experience, though a theoretical inquiry lies at the heart of his musical research, placed at the intersection of the study of partially ordered sets of justly tuned intervals, number theory, group theory and algebraic geometry. Through the whole spectrum of vocal techniques known as overtone singing, he navigates inside the newly created spectral spaces. The continuum between digital synthesis and voice reveals itself in the (ec)static resonance of sounds, in a continuous negotiation between the abstract and the mimetic. Maiolo studied electronic music at the G.B. Martini Conservatory, physics at the University of Bologna, and music and acoustic engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan. His music has been released on labels such as Trovarobato, ArteTetra, and Luminance Records. His projects, including Entangled, Contemplation of Blue, Eternal Source of Light Voice Space, The neat sensation of our separation, and Curve25519, have been presented by experimental organizations in Bologna such as Xing/Raum, No Glucose, Gallleriapiù, Alchemilla, and the Centro di Ricerca Musicale Teatro San Leonardo; by venues like Macao and Standards (for Artweek Milano 2019); by institutions including the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Certosa Monumental Cemetery, and the Santarcangelo Historical-Archaeological Museum; and by networks and festivals such as Umanesimo Artificiale, Bologna Elettrica, and NESXT Torino. He has been artistic director for the electronic music event series NE555 and Spectrorama.
