Nature Theater of Oklahoma - il nome viene dal romanzo di Kafka Amerika - è una delle compagnie più interessanti della scena newyorkese Off-Off-Broadway. Diretta da Pavol Liska e Kelly Copper, sin dal primo progetto coreografico Poetics: a ballet brut (1995), Nature Theater of Oklahoma si dedica a cose che non sa fare, mettendosi in situazioni impossibili e prendendo spunto dalla propria incapacità e disagio. "Dal vivo, cerchiamo di creare situazioni scombinate o alterate, che richiedono una partecipazione totale di performer e pubblico. Lavoriamo con materiali readymade, con spazi di recupero, discorsi sentiti di sfuggita, gesti osservati. Attraverso un'estrema manipolazione formale e uno sforzo sovraumano, imprimiamo al nostro lavoro uno slittamento percettivo della realtà quotidiana che si estende oltre la performance, nel mondo in cui viviamo."

Nature Theater of Oklahoma - the name comes from Kafka’s novel Amerika - is one of New York’s most talented performance groups of the last few years, under the direction of Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper. Since Poetics: a ballet brut (1995), their first dance piece created as an ensemble, Nature Theater of Oklahoma has been devoted to making the work they don’t know how to make, putting themselves in impossible situations, and working from out of their own ignorance and unease. "We strive to create an unsettling live situation that demands total presence from everyone in the room. We use the readymade material around us, found space, overheard speech, and observed gesture, and through extreme formal manipulation, and superhuman effort, we affect in our work a shift in the perception of everyday reality that extends beyond the site of performance and into the world in which we live."
