Xing presenta il nuovo LP OWsT di Elvin Brandhi, diciottesima uscita di XONG collection - dischi d'artista. L’uscita è su vinile bianco, in edizione limitata e numerata di 150 copie, assieme ad una tiratura di 20 collector’s edition accompagnate ciascuna da uno stemma-talismano dipinto dall'artista con inchiostro naturale nero di seppia, da indossare come toppa o da conservare al sicuro per tenere lontano i misantropi.

OWsT è un Urlare Fuori Il Sè vociferante, rumoroso e chiaro. Spinta da una costante rottura nomade, sia nell'arte che nella vita, la sound artist e poetessa Elvin Brandhi esplora le contraddizioni urgenti tra sé e mondo, tra linguaggio e significato. In OWsT questa giovanissima artista, che ha passato gli ultimi anni a disimparare incessantemente, esprime la sua dissidenza limbica. Attraverso il caos, con una tensione sempre viva e non rifinita, annaspare o armeggiare ai margini delle parole può essere più potente di uno sconsolato interrogarsi:

Lo sforzo di articolare è necessariamente violento: scoppi di inclinazione, gesti di intenzione che sostituiscono la capacità di esprimersi in modo coerente. OWsT è un pretesto per spingere fuori la forma, senza timore reverenziale nei confronti di una tradizione.

OWsT si origina da una live recording session fatta a Raum, Bologna. Registrata su nastro e rimanipolata dall’artista a più riprese, più che una trascrizione del ‘processo di espulsione’ (letteralmente oust, poeticamente e foneticamente owst) il disco è un ‘incantesimo retrospettivo’ dove tensioni e indecisioni, resistenze, deviazioni e ricadute costituiscono il processo dell'archeologo che tenta di recuperare alla vista il contenuto mutilato di ciò che è fuoruscito. Ascoltare la musica di Elvin Brandhi può offrire un'esperienza caotica e travolgente.

Elvin Brandhi (all'anagrafe Freya Edmondes), poetessa, sound-artist e producer, è originaria di Bridgend in Galles, ma cittadina del mondo, muovendosi tra Vienna e Kampala, Berlino, Cairo, Dakkar, Marsiglia e Newcastle. Ha avuto un’infanzia immersa quotidianamente nella musica, e ha studiato pittura e disegno all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna. La sua produzione sonora si sviluppa su basi distorte e ritmi esplosivi e aberranti che fungono da piattaforma instabile su cui canta e performa i propri flussi di coscienza. Furioso profondo o non-sense, il suo spoken word auto-tune, impasta field recordings, nastri, vinili, strumenti e voce. Dal 2013 ha suonato e collaborato con molti improvvisatori tra cui Rhodri Davies, Eugene Chadbourne, Michael Fischer, Gustav Thomas, Greta Buitiké, THF Drenching, Alan Wilkinson, Ventil, WIDT, l'ex Jungle Brothers MC Sensational, Tony Allen, Pat Thomas e con il collettivo ugandese Nyege Nyege. Ad ogni tappa del suo percorso nomadico collabora con artisti locali. Ha partecipato a festival internazionali tra cui CTM (Berlin), Borealis (Bergen), Donaufestival (Krems,) Kraak Festival (Brussels), Umlaut festival (Paris,) Total Inertia (Leeds), TUSK (Newcastle), Sonic Acts (Amsterdam), Counterflows (Glasgow). Tra le collaborazioni stabili c’è il duo noise pop low-fi Yeah You con il padre Gustav Thomas, il duo interdisciplinare BAHK con Daniel Blumberg, il duo INSIN con Bashar Suleiman, il progetto Avril Spleen con Joseph Jadame, il duo Pollution Opera con Nadah El Shazly, e Bad@Maths. In solo ha realizzato gli LP Shelf Life (C.A.N.V.A.S), Villaelvin (Hakuna Kulala), Elvin Brandhi (Krai), e OWsT (Xing/Xong collection). Nel 2017 le è stato assegnato il premio PRS Oram Award per musiciste innovatrici, con una commissione produttiva al BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Ha inoltre fatto parte di SHAPE platform 2020.

Xong collection è il nome della collana di dischi d'artista, prodotta da Xing, di personalità - italiane e non – legate al variegato mondo della performatività. La collana esplora e traccia una geografia di artisti che intendono il campo sonico come una delle piattaforme in cui espandere i loro mondi e la loro immaginazione. "Lo spazio del disco" è la scena su cui focalizzare e amplificare la propria poetica come fenomeno sonico e fisico, lo spazio da performare. Gli artisti che Xing ha coinvolto in questo progetto praticano di fatto e da sempre la transmedialità. Xong è un progetto unico nel suo genere che disegna nuovi contorni per produrre una diversa comprensione del performativo, delle live arts, e del loro potenziale. Ogni disco è in edizione numerata. Il vinile accoglie la solidificazione del gesto. Nell'insieme colleziona una serie di creazioni originali che costituiscono una rassegna a lungo termine. Onda su onda, Xong è una collana di “Musica-Non-Musica” per attualizzare l’immaginazione.

The release is on white vinyl, in a limited and numbered edition of 150 copies, including a collector's edition of 20 copies, each featuring bespoke talismans, painted by the artist in squid ink, to be worn as patches or kept safe somewhere to ward off misanthropists.

OWsT is a vociferous attempt to Shout The Self Out. Elvin Brandhi, artist and poet propelled by constant nomadic rupture in both art and life, screams her mind to explore the urgent contradictions of self and world, of language and meaning, relentlessly unlearning at the edge of words. In OWsT she extrudes her limbic dissidence keeping a raw tension through chaos, where the fumbling find its stratum of empowerment and can become more than its forlorn wondering:

OWsT originates from a live recording session at Raum, Xing’s space in Bologna. Recorded on tape and re-manipulated by the artist several times, more than a transcription of the expulsion process (literally ‘oust’, poetically and phonetically ‘owst’) the album is "a retrospective spell where tensions and indecisions, resistances, deviations and relapses constitute the process of the archaeologist attempting to retrieve from sightthe mangled contents of what poured out.” Listening to Elvin Brandhi’s music can offer a chaotic and overwhelming experience.

Elvin Brandhi (born Freya Edmondes) is an improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist, originally from Bridgend in Wales, but a citizen of the world, moving between Vienna and Kampala, Berlin, Cairo, Dakkar, Marseille and Newcastle. She had a childhood immersed in music every day, and studied painting and drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Her sound production develops on distorted bases that act as an unstable platform on which she sings and performs her improvised stream of consciousness lyrical trips. Deep furious or nonsense, her spoken word lies on explosive and aberrant beats from field recordings, tape, vinyl, instrument and voice. Since 2013 she has played and collaborated with many improvisers including Rhodri Davies, Eugene Chadbourne, Michael Fischer, Gustav Thomas, Greta Buitiké, THF Drenching, Alan Wilkinson, Ventil, WIDT, the former Jungle Brothers MC Sensational, Tony Allen, Pat Thomas and with the Ugandan collective Nyege Nyege. At each stop of her nomadic journey she collaborates with local artists. She has participated in international festivals including CTM (Berlin), Borealis (Bergen), Donaufestival (Krems), Kraak Festival (Brussels), Umlaut festival (Paris,) Total Inertia (Leeds), TUSK (Newcastle), Sonic Acts (Amsterdam) , Counterflows (Glasgow). Among her stable collaborations are the low-fi noise pop duo Yeah You with her father Gustav Thomas, the interdisciplinary duo BAHK with Daniel Blumberg, the INSIN duo with Bashar Suleiman, the project Avril Spleen with Joseph Jadame, the duo Pollution Opera with Nadah El Shazly, and Bad@Maths. She released the LPs Shelf Life (C.A.N.V.A.S), Villaelvin (Hakuna Kulala), Elvin Brandhi (Krai), and OWsT (Xing/Xong collection). In 2017 she was awarded the PRS Oram Award for Innovative Musicians, with a production commission at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. She was also part of SHAPE platform 2020.

Xong is the name of the collection produced by Xing, a vinyl-only record label of works by both Italian and international personalities linked to the variegated worlds of live performativity. The collection explores a geography of artists who present this sonic field as a platform to expand their staged worlds. "The space of the record" is given focus and amplifies their poetics as both a sonic and physical phenomenon. Xong is a unique project that draws out divergent understandings of the performative and live arts, beyond genre and intersecting between different practices. Xong collects a series of original creations that constitute an expanded program. Each physical record is a numbered edition on white vinyl hosting the solidification of the gesture. A wave upon wave, a series of "Music-Non-Music" to actualize both the artists and listeners imagination.
