Mercoledi 1 giugno 2022 alle 20 Xing presenta a Raum OUTS, live recording session della sound artist, poetessa e producer Elvin Brandhi, a chiusura della sua residenza per la registrazione del nuovo LP che uscirà prossimamente nella collezione di Xong - dischi d’artista.

Ritorna a Bologna Elvin Brandhi, già invitata da Xing in occasione di Live Arts Week IX con il duo YEAH YOU, la formazione artistica composta da padre e figlia che ha presentato THIS INSTEAD, sound performance a bordo di un auto. Focus delle registrazioni e del live a Raum è il linguaggio. Spinta da una costante rottura nomade in tutte le sue forme di contro-intuizione, Elvin Brandhi chiama a raccolta i cascami sonori e le voci orfane di un vortice senza fondo, disponendole come truppe irragionevoli di avversione ribelle. Questa giovanissima artista ha passato gli ultimi 10 anni a disimparare incessantemente, capovolgendo ogni escapismo esotico. Il processo creativo di Brandhi è molto lontano dal mondo della star solista stereotipata ed egocentrica. Da nomade nel cuore, la sua ricerca di nuovi spazi e comunità in cui prosperare è imbevuta della sua arte e spesso la porta ad abbandonare del tutto la definizione di artista solista, presentandosi al mondo attraverso collaborazioni e band formate durante i suoi viaggi. Ascoltare la musica di Elvin Brandhi può offrire un'esperienza caotica e travolgente.

Elvin Brandhi (all'anagrafe Freya Edmondes), poetessa, sound-artist e producer, è originaria di Bridgend in Galles, ma cittadina del mondo, muovendosi tra Vienna e Kampala, Berlino, Cairo, Dakkar, Marsiglia e Newcastle. Ha avuto un’infanzia immersa quotidianamente nella musica, e ha studiato pittura e disegno all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna. La sua produzione sonora si sviluppa su basi distorte e ritmi esplosivi e aberranti che fungono da piattaforma instabile su cui canta e performa i propri flussi di coscienza. Furioso profondo o non-sense, il suo spoken word auto-tune, impasta field recordings, nastri, vinili, strumenti e voce. Dal 2013 ha suonato e collaborato con molti improvvisatori tra cui Rhodri Davies, Eugene Chadbourne, Michael Fischer, Gustav Thomas, Greta Buitiké, THF Drenching, Alan Wilkinson, Ventil, WIDT, l'ex Jungle Brothers MC Sensational, Tony Allen, Pat Thomas e con il collettivo ugandese Nyege Nyege. Ad ogni tappa del suo percorso nomadico collabora con artisti locali. Ha partecipato a festival internazionali tra cui CTM (Berlin), Borealis (Bergen), Donaufestival (Krems,) Kraak Festival (Bruxelles), Umlaut festival (Paris,) Total Inertia (Leeds), TUSK (Newcastle), Sonic Acts (Amsterdam), Counterflows (Glasgow). Tra le collaborazioni stabili c’è il duo noise pop low-fi Yeah You con il padre Gustav Thomas, il duo interdisciplinare BAHK con Daniel Blumberg, il duo INSIN con Bashar Suleiman, e Bad@Maths. Ha realizzato l’EP in solo Shelf Life (C.A.N.V.A.S), e gli LP Villaelvin (Hakuna Kulala) e Elvin Brandhi (Krai). Nel 2017 le è stato assegnato il premio PRS Oram Award per musiciste innovatrici, con una commissione produttiva al BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Ha inoltre fatto parte di SHAPE platform 2020.

Wednesday 1 June 2022 at 8 pm Xing presents at Raum OUTS, a live recording session by sound artist, poet and producer Elvin Brandhi,at the end of her residency for the recording of the new LP that will soon be released for the Xong collection - artist records.

Elvin Brandhi returns to Bologna, after Xing’s invitation for Live Arts Week IX of her duo YEAH YOU, the artistic formation composed of father and daughter who presented THIS INSTEAD, a sound performance travelling on a car through various places. Focus of the recordings and live performance at Raum is: Language.  Propelled by constant nomadic rupture and dedication to all forms of counterintuition on a practical as well as artistic level,  the work of Elvin Brandhi  gathers the sonic offal and orphaned voices from the pitless whirl into mindless troops of wayward aversion.This very young artist has spent the last 10 years restlessly unlearning, inverting exoticist expeditionism by exorcising the EYE/I, dissecting internal mechanisms of functional reduction.  Brandhi’s creative process is far removed from the world of the stereotypical, self-centred solo star. As a nomad at heart, her search for new spaces and communities in which to thrive is imbued in her art and often leads her to abandon the definition of solo artist altogether, presenting herself to the world through collaborations and bands formed during her travels. Listening to Elvin Brandhi's music can be a chaotic and overwhelming experience.

Elvin Brandhi (born Freya Edmondes) is an improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist,originally from Bridgend in Wales, but a citizen of the world, moving between Vienna and Kampala, Berlin, Cairo, Dakkar, Marseille and Newcastle. She had a childhood immersed in music every day, and studied painting and drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Her sound production develops on distorted bases that act as an unstable platform on which she sings and performs her improvised stream of consciousness lyrical trips. Deep furious or nonsense, her spoken word lies on explosive and aberrant beats from field recordings, tape, vinyl, instrument and voice.Since 2013 she has played and collaborated with many improvisers including Rhodri Davies, Eugene Chadbourne, Michael Fischer, Gustav Thomas, Greta Buitiké, THF Drenching, Alan Wilkinson, Ventil, WIDT, the former Jungle Brothers MC Sensational, Tony Allen, Pat Thomas and with the Ugandan collective Nyege Nyege. At each stop of her nomadic journey she collaborates with local artists. She has participated in international festivals including CTM (Berlin), Borealis (Bergen), Donaufestival (Krems,) Kraak Festival (Brussels), Umlaut festival (Paris,) Total Inertia (Leeds), TUSK (Newcastle), Sonic Acts (Amsterdam) , Counterflows (Glasgow).
