Il sociologo e conduttore radiofonico  Alarico Mantovani propone un ascolto dal titolo I wanna be a dead boy, basato sulle origini del punk-rock americano dalla fine dei Settanta e i primi Ottanta. La furia distruttiva ed autolesionista di Darby Crash, la sensualità pregna di edonismo e 'se visionaria di Jeffrey Lee Pierce: soltanto alcune delle figure emblematiche della blank generation del punk americano. Ragazzi che corrono verso la morte sotto un grande sole nero. Invocandola, irridendola, sbeffeggiandola. Durante e dopo il punk: un florilegio di mille e mille forme espressive che hanno assunto le più diverse fisionomie proprio in virtù della sfrenata libertà e della carica eversiva portate in dote dal punk-rock. Tra la fine dei Settanta e i primi Ottanta una costellazione di band dalla East alla West Coast hanno cambiato per sempre il volto del pop mutuando e riprocessando i linguaggi delle musiche bianca e nera in un coacervo di stili inauditi e devianti, talvolta raffinati, complessi e allusivi, talvolta grezzi e diretti.
