Pierre Huyghe

Pierre Huyghe è uno degli artisti visivi più riconosciuti a livello internazionale. Negli ultimi anni il suo lavoro sembra però aver trovato un luogo ideale al di fuori o nei dintorni del contesto museale: nel 2005 a Central Park, nella pista di pattinaggio su ghiaccio, in una performance musicale ispirata ad un viaggio in Antartide; nel 2008 ha trasformato per 24 ore la sala da concerti della Sydney Opera House in un bosco pieno di nebbia; nel 2010 il Palacio de Cristal del Reina Sofia è diventato il campo di battaglia di sopravvivenza fra svariate specie di fiori. E' la volta infine di Documenta 2012, dove un brano di Karlsaue Park diventa Untilled, un terrain vague sospeso nel tempo che si configura come un interstizio fantascientifico fra futuro e passato, alieno e straniante, e dove s’incontrano reliquie misteriose, piante di ogni specie, cani singolari e un alveare ronzante sul volto di una statua. Pierre Huyghe ha avuto mostre personali nei maggiori musei del mondo, dal Reina Sofia di Madrid (2010) alla Tate Modern (2006), passando per il Castello di Rivoli (2004), il Guggenheim Museum (2003), the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum di Eindhoven (2001), il Centre Georges Pompidou (2000), il Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2006, 1998); ha partecipato alle maggiori mostre internazionali, fra cui fra Biennale di Sydney (2008), Whitney Biennial (2006), Biennale di Venezia (2003, 1999), documenta 11 (2002), Manifesta 2 (1998). Nel 2001 ha ricevuto il premio speciale della Biennale di Venezia per il Padiglione Francese, nel 2002 ha vinto l'Hugo Boss Prize, e nel 2013 l'Haftmann Prize.

Pierre Huyghe is one of the most recognized visual artists internationally. In recent years, his work seems to have found an ideal place outside or next to the museum context: in 2005 on the Central Park ice-skating rink, with a musical performance inspired by a trip to Antarctica; for 24 hours in 2008 he transformed the concert hall of the Sydney Opera House into a fog-filled forest; in 2010 the Palacio de Cristal del Reina Sofia became the battlefield in a war for survival between different species of flowers. Then, finally, Documenta 2012, where a piece by Karlsaue Park becomes Untilled, a vague terrain suspended in time that was configured as a sci-fi gap between the future and the past, alien and alienating, and where mysterious relics, plants of all species, singular dogs and a hive with a swarm of buzzing bees on the face of a statue met. Pierre Huyghe has had solo exhibitions in major museums around the world, from the Reina Sofia in Madrid (2010) to the Tate Modern (2006), and the Castello di Rivoli (2004), the Guggenheim Museum (2003), the Stedelijk Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven (2001), the Centre Georges Pompidou (2000), the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2006, 1998); he has participated in the major international exhibitions, including the Sydney Biennial (2008), the Whitney Biennial (2006 ), the Venice Biennale (2003, 1999), Documenta 11 (2002), Manifesta 2 (1998). In 2001 he received a special award at the Venice Biennale for the French Pavilion, in 2002 he won the Hugo Boss prize, and in 2013, the Haftmann Prize.
