Riccardo Benassi e Piero Frassinelli hanno intrapreso un dialogo prolungato che ha portato alla realizzazione di due progetti espositivi: Autostrada Verticale nel 2009, ad Art Fall-Ferrara, che ha visto anche il coinvolgimento del fondatore di Superstudio Torlando di Francia, e Attimi Fondamentali, nel 2011 al Museo Marino Marini di Firenze, città che ha visto la nascita di Superstudio 45 anni prima. Per Riccardo Benassi tale sfida non consiste tanto nel tentare di rispondere a vecchie domande, quanto proprio nel dimostrare che non è affatto necessario affrontare problematiche datate  partendo dal presupposto che "un Monumento è una sofisticata forma di ritardo che ci permette di essere sempre in tempo". Per la stessa ragione cerca costantemente di attualizzare idee sviluppate prima che lui nascesse, collegandole al suo presente fenomenico e cortocircuitando spazio e tempo. E' questo il caso di What does a flat surface needs in order to became a dancefloor (us) progetto in cui crea una nuova colonna sonora ai due film di Superstudio Vita/Supersuperfice e Cerimonia appartenenti al ciclo Fundamental Acts, rispettivamente del 1972 e 1973. Il nuovo suono creato da Benassi, una specie di sovrapposizione concettuale della prima synth-ambient della vecchia scuola Techno anni '90, allude ad una possibile nuova interpretazione della Cerimonia - quale può considerarsi l'Evento Festivo - come una occasionale trasformazione informale di una superfice piatta in una Dancefloor (grazie a noi stessi).

Riccardo Benassi and Piero Frassinelli start a long term conversation wich culminates in two exhibition projects: Autostrada Verticale (Vertical Highway) in 2009, together also with the Superstudio founder Cristiano Toraldo di Francia, and Attimi Fondamentali (Fundamental Moments) in 2011 in Museo Marino Marini in Florence, the city where the original architecture firm was founded right 45 years before. For Riccardo Benassi the challenge is to not attempt to answer old questions but rather show how it is not necessary to answer questions that are now outdated, since, as he stated: “a Monument is a sophisticated form of tardiness that allow us to always be on time”. For the very same reason, he constantly try to upgrade ideas which were developed before he was even born, connecting those ideas to his own phenomenological present, and short-circuiting feelings in time and space. This is exactly the case of the project What does a flat surface needs in order to became a dancefloor (us) in which he will create a new live soundtrack for the two groundbreaking Superstudio films Vita/Supersuperfice (Life/Supersurface) and Cerimonia (Ceremony) from the Fundamental Acts cycle, respectively 1972 and 1973. The sound created by Benassi, a sort of conceptual superimposition of an early ’90 synth-ambient and an old-school Techno, winks to the possibility of a new understanding of the Ceremony – as the Event of the Party, and the Super Surface – as the occasional and informal transformation of a flat surface in a Dancefloor (thanks to us).
