L’intervento di Invernomuto per Oplà. Performing activities nel contesto di Arte Fiera 2022 si manifesta attraverso il sistema di interfono della fiera di Bologna. VERNASCACADABRA è composto da una serie di composizioni per ocarina – immaginate, suonate e postprodotte da Invernomuto – annunciate e diffuse con cadenza regolare durante gli orari di apertura della fiera.

L'ocarina è uno strumento a fiato tradizionalmente costruito in terracotta. Il nome deriva dalla sua forma, che ricorda una piccola oca senza testa. Si sostiene che lo strumento fu inventato nella provincia di Bologna da Giuseppe Donati, artigiano di Budrio, intorno alla metà del XIX secolo e da lì si diffuse in varie aree geografiche (Austria, Sud Tirolo soprattutto, ma anche Corea, Giappone, Perù e Ungheria). A parte gli utilizzi tradizionali e folkloristici, l’ocarina compare in alcune celebri colonne sonore di Ennio Morricone, nelle composizioni di György Ligeti, in una serie anime giapponese degli anni ’70 (Capitan Harlock), la utilizzarono i Duran Duran e nel seminale videogioco The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time assume una funzione di macchina del tempo e teletrasporto.

L’intervento si inserisce in un percorso storico-musicale che Invernomuto porta avanti da anni, a partire dal suono e dagli immaginari che genera. In particolare il lavoro corre in parallelo a Black Med, un progetto di ricerca sonora sul Mediterraneo che Invernomuto ha iniziato nel 2018, consultabile online sulla piattaforma blackmed.invernomuto.info.

The ocarina is a wind instrument traditionally made of terracotta. Its name derives from its shape, which resembles a small, headless goose (“oca” in Italian). It is claimed that the instrument was invented by Giuseppe Donati, an artisan in the small town of Budrio, near Bologna, around the mid-19^th century, and then it spread to many geographic areas (Austria and especially in South Tyrol, but also in Korea, Japan, Peru, and Hungary). Aside from its use in traditional and folk music, the ocarina appears in some famous soundtracks by Ennio Morricone, in compositions by György Ligeti, in Capitan Harlock (a 1970s Japanese anime series), in music by Duran Duran, and in the seminal videogame The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in which it serves as a time and teleportation machine. VERNASCACADABRA, Invernomuto’s sound performance for Oplà 2022, takes place through the fair’s loudspeaker system. It consists in a series of works for ocarina – composed, played, and post-produced by Invernomuto – announced and broadcasted on a regular basis during the opening hours of the art fair.It is part of an artistic journey through the history of music routes that Invernomuto has been carrying out for years, starting from the sound and the imaginaries that it generates. Specifically, the work runs parallel to Black Med, a sound research project on the Mediterranean that Invernomuto started in 2018 (available for online consultation on the platform blackmed.invernomuto.info).
