Thomas Lehmen, coreografo, danzatore e performer tedesco si muove tra danza, performance e riflessione critica. Il suo lavoro indaga il corpo in relazione alle strutture, ai sistemi sociali e agli ambienti umani. Le creazioni coreografiche prendono spesso forma di dialoghi danzati, avvicinando il lavoro fisico-spaziale ad elementi di linguistica e ad un approccio concettuale. Interessato a progetti di cooperazione artistica, dopo gli studi alla School for New Dance Developement di Amsterdam, ha vissuto a Berlino dal 1990 al 2010, dove è stato artist-in-residence al Podewil/TanzWerkstatt Berlin, e ha fatto parte della nuova scena coreografica berlinese nata nel 2000. Con il testo coreografico per liberi interpreti Schreibstuck (2002) ha messo in rilievo una serie di questioni sul ruolo dell'autore, sulla natura della ripetizione e sull'identità, poi sviluppata nei lavori successivi: Stationen (2003), Funktionen (2004), In all languages (2006), Lehmen Lernt (2006), Heromatik (2007), Club of Heroes (2008), How it Happened (2009), Schrottplatz (2010) e Bitte... (2012), accompagnati da pubblicazioni. A Piece For You (2013-14) è la nuova produzione. Insegna alle università di Amsterdam, Amburgo, Berlino, Reykjavik, Jakarta, Gießen, Arizona State University e conduce workshops su scala internazionale. Anche nell'insegnamento tratta i temi citati connessi ai sistemi coreografici, in direzione di una composizione artistica inquadrabile in una coerenza sociale.

Thomas Lehmen is born 1963 in Oberhausen, Germany. He is freelance choreographer, dancer and teacher. From 1986 to 1990 he studied at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam. From 1990 to 2010 he lived in Berlin. Here he developed many soli, group works and projects: amongst others distanzlos, mono subjects, Schreibstück, Funktionen, It’s better to..., Lehmen lernt. Since 2011 he lives again in North Rhine-Westphalia and produced the works Schrottplatz and Bitte.... A Piece For You is his new production. His works are performed worldwide. His returning interests are communications and the human beings which reflect themselves in their surroundings and activly creates these with creative relations. The approaches often show often linguistic elements and conceptional methods and expressions. In the dance component he works amongst others with interrelations of dancers and danced dialogues. He teaches at universities, e.g. Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Reykjavik, Jakarta, Gießen, Arizona State University and gives workshops on international scale as well. In the teaching he works amonst others with the themes mentioned above, as well as choreographic systems, which aim towards an individual artistic composition within social coherences.
